Hidden Spaces: An Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Tour

855 855 people viewed this event.

Step beyond the public areas of Peterborough Cathedral and discover some of the remarkable spaces that lie behind closed doors.

This unique guided experience offers rare access to parts of the Cathedral and its historic precincts that are not normally open to visitors. Led by expert guides, you’ll uncover stories spanning nearly 1,000 years of history while exploring hidden corners, historic buildings and spectacular viewpoints seldom seen by the public.

Highlights include the historic Cathedral Library, access to the Clerestory Level high above the nave, and a number of additional restricted areas within the Cathedral. Beyond the Cathedral itself, guests will enjoy exclusive access to the site of Peterborough’s lost Norman Castle, located within a private garden not normally open to the public, before exploring the medieval King’s Lodging, Table Hall, and the grounds of the Bishop’s Palace.

As part of the visit to the Palace, guests will have the rare opportunity to enter the historic hall where the body of Mary Queen of Scots rested overnight before her funeral at Peterborough Cathedral in 1587. This special access provides a unique connection to one of the Cathedral’s most significant historic events and complements our current exhibition exploring the life and legacy of Mary Queen of Scots.
