Joining Us For The First Time
For all the presence and awe the Cathedral building inspires, the Cathedral community is exceptionally friendly and welcoming, particularly if this is your first time worshipping here.
What can you expect?
Peterborough Cathedral offers a warm and friendly welcome, especially for first-time visitors. Here’s what to expect during your first service:
- Arrive about ten minutes early. A steward will greet you at the door, provide a service booklet to follow along, and guide you to your seat.
- No seating is reserved, ensuring space for everyone, including those with wheelchairs or pushchairs.
- There’s no dress code—come as you are!
- The main Sunday morning service starts at 10:30 am. As the clergy and choir process in, everyone stands.
- Children can join age-appropriate groups during the first hymn, returning in time for Holy Communion.
- Services involve prayer, relevant Bible readings, inspiring talks, hymns, and choir performances.
- Collection bags are passed around, but giving is optional; many members contribute via direct debit.
- The service culminates in Holy Communion, with gluten-free options available. If you prefer, you can receive a blessing instead.
- After the service, join us in the South Transept for tea, coffee, and biscuits.
