Peterborough Cathedral

The Christian Faith

Peterborough Cathedral promotes opportunities to grow in learning and understanding of the Christian faith in a variety of ways.

Peterborough Cathedral belongs to the Church of England, which is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, a family of churches with almost 100 million members.

We believe in one God, who created the world and loves everything that he has made. We believe that human beings are made in the image of God, in all our difference and diversity. We can never fully understand God, but we can get to know something about what God is like by looking at his creation, and especially from the life and teachings of Jesus.

Jesus helps us to understand more about what God is like, and how we can get to know him better.

Faith is very personal, but many people find it helpful to explore it with others. You can do this by joining a study group [insert link here] or by joining in worship [insert link here]. Don’t worry if you have never been to church before or you’re not sure what to do. Cathedrals are not just for people who already believe or belong to the Church. Everybody is welcome.

The words of the readings and prayers we hear and the songs we sing in services at the Cathedral all tell us something about who God is. All our services include readings from the Bible, and often a sermon or address which helps us understand how the Bible connects to our lives today. Many of our services also include beautiful music sung by the Cathedral choirs, because music can sometimes take us to places that words alone can’t.
