About Becket's Tea Room

Cakes at Becket's Tea RoomBecket's Tea Room is a collaboration between Venture Catering, a division of Peterborough Regional College (PRC) Ventures, and Peterborough Cathedral. All the profits from the enterprise are ploughed back in to support both the Regional College and the Cathedral.

The Becket Chapel dates substantially from around 1320, incorporating the remains of a building constructed in the 1170s to house holy relics from St Thomas Becket. On the Dissolution of the Monastery and creation of the abbey Church as the city’s Cathedral in 1541, the Chapel became the new King’s School and remained so until 1885 when it became the first home for Peterborough Museum. Since then it has been used as a Chapter House, meeting room and rehearsal space for the Cathedral Choir.

Furniture for Becket’s Tea Room has been kindly provided by the Peterborough based furniture company AHF. They have not only donated tables and chairs, but also sofas for a relaxed seating area next to the main Chapel. An additional entrance to the Tea Room will be opened later in 2017, supported by generous funding from Perkins Engines Limited.
