Directions and Parking

Peterborough Cathedral is at the heart of Peterborough City Centre. It is very easy to get here. There are plenty of nearby car parks and both rail and bus stations are within short walking distance.

Opening times can vary. Please check here before visiting: current opening times.

The Cathedral is well-signposted with 'brown signs' on major roads into the city. Otherwise, please follow signs for the City Centre.

Parking

There is no public parking available in the Cathedral grounds (Precincts), but plentiful parking is available just outside, within a 5-10 minute walk. Click on the map to see where (PDF 2.48MB).

Of the City Council's car parks, the closest long stay spaces are at:

Car park Postcode Spaces Height restriction
Bishop's Road PE1 1YZ 239 2.3m
Riverside PE1 1EG 164 2.3m
Car Haven PE1 1YX 205 2.3m

There is a barrier at the vehicle entrance to the Cathedral, so vehicle access will only be granted to those who are authorised. On some satellite navigation systems the Cathedral’s location may show as an unnamed road leading to Dean’s Court. On others ‘Wheel Yard’ may be recognised.

Parking for Blue Badge Holders

There are two parking spaces for blue badge holders within the Cathedral Precincts. If you would like advice, or if further provision is required, please call the Cathedral Office on 01733 355315. If you have problems once on site, please let any of our staff know, e.g. a Welcomer at the main entrance, a Verger or Security Guard and we will assist.

You will need a security code to exit through the vehicle barrier at the end of your visit. Again, a Welcomer or other staff member can provide you with this.

By rail

Visiting us by rail is very simple. Travel to Peterborough Station (London, Cambridge and Leicester 55 mins, York: 1hr 15 mins) and follow the pedestrian signs to the Cathedral walking through the city centre, which will take approximately 10-15 mins. View map.

By coach

There is no parking for coaches in the Cathedral Precincts, but there is a coach drop-off point for visitors just outside on Midgate (PE1 1SA). Visitors should make the two-minute walk up Wheel Yard, past the vehicle barrier and into the Precincts. The West Front of the Cathedral will be on your left.

The GPS location for the coach dropoff point on City Road outside Eco Innovation Centre is North 52° 34.27.23  – East 0° 14.24.33.

Coaches can park at the Coach Park on Bright Street (PE1 2ED).  The GPS location is North 52° 34.35.96  – East 0° 14.52.48.
