Friday June 14th the Cathedral is only open for private prayer due to an event

RSCM Area Festival

The Cathedral hosts an annual RSCM Peterborough and Northants Area Festival, held usually in early October. Members of choirs from churches throughout the Diocese join together to sing a Festival Evensong in the Cathedral with the Cathedral Choir.

All diocesan parish and benefice choirs (including individual members of those choirs or the RSCM) are welcome to attend the Festival. School, other choirs and local choirs from neighbouring dioceses are also encouraged to take part. The music is chosen to reflect the different make-up and abilities of choirs within the diocese.

This includes some simpler items that can be used in all churches, and some more challenging pieces that become possible because of the large forces which gather together for the Festival. Rehearsals are held around the diocese and on the day of the Area Festival a rehearsal, attended by everyone, is held at 2.30pm in the Cathedral, prior to Festival Evensong at 17:30 to which are all welcome. This year the music is taken from the RSCM Service Book, In our Service, complied in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
