Junior Choir

Peterborough Cathedral Junior Choir was launched online in May 2021 and we were delighted to be able to begin in person sessions in September 2021.  Since then the choir has enjoyed meeting together each week during term time and has sung in Evensong with the Cathedral Choristers, in Cathedral family services, and for a number of services at St John's Church in Cathedral Square.  In September 2022 due to overwhelming demand we launched our choir for Reception-aged children.

Peterborough Cathedral Junior Choirs offer a musical education delivered by highly skilled professionals, involvement in cathedral life as a place of worship and community, and the social and general academic development of all the children in their formative years, which all lay foundations for wider skills to be developed.  As well as learning musical and vocal skills, musical training also strengthens children’s social, literacy, and numeracy skills, and they learn how to work as part of a team – all lifelong skills.

Our choirs have grown considerably since they began and in April 2023 we restructured the choirs to accommodate the demand for places by across the full primary age range.

Our Junior Choir is now divided into three groups who meet weekly during term time as below:

Minims (for children in Reception)                        Tuesdays 1615 - 1645

Crotchets (for children in Years 1 and 2)             Tuesdays 1700 - 1745

Quavers (for children in Years 3-6)                       Tuesdays 1730 – 1830
