Growing Faith Chaplain

Associate Priest for Children, Youth & Families

*Please apply directly using the application form provided below*

We are pleased to announce an exciting full-time opportunity for an Associate Priest for Children, Youth and Families and Chaplain of the King’s (Cathedral) School. Centred around the Growing Faith Vision in central Peterborough, this role involves collaborative work with the Cathedral, the Parish Church, the Deanery, and the Kings’ School.

Supported by the Diocese, this innovative initiative seeks to place children, young people, and families at the heart of the Church’s mission and ministry, while testing the Growing Faith vision and sharing valuable insights and best practices.

The postholder will work across the 3 spheres of Growing Faith – school, church and household. It combines a part-time role of School Chaplain at the Kings (Cathedral) School with a new role of Associate Priest based at Peterborough Cathedral and the city centre parish church (St John’s with St Luke’s) and more widely with the deanery Youth internship programme. Each role will include connection with parents and families to encourage ‘faith at home’. The Project Management Group will work with the postholder to reflect theologically on these relationships and the effectiveness of this model of working. As a new initiative, the postholder will both manage the specific responsibilities of each element as well as bring coherence to the project as a whole.

As School Chaplain, the postholder will support and develop the school’s Christian vision and ethos, offering spiritual and pastoral care to students and staff whilst instigating new ways of working with the church/Cathedral and families.

As Associate Priest for Children, Youth and Families, the postholder will support existing work across generations in the Cathedral and St John’s Church and also explore and experiment with innovative patterns of mission and ministry in line with the Growing Faith model. A Deanery Youth Internship Project is planned to begin from September 2024 with up to 4 interns working across the Deanery to grow and develop youth work. One intern will be based at the Cathedral, with the other 3 in parishes across the Deanery. The post holder will work alongside these interns to enable ministry with young people to grow across Peterborough Deanery as a whole.
