Royal College of Organists accolade for our Organ Scholar, Imogen Morgan

Thursday 18 February

We are delighted to announce that Imogen Morgan, Peterborough Cathedral’s Organ Scholar, has been awarded the Fellowship Diploma from the Royal College of Organists (FRCO).

In receiving this qualification, Imogen has also been awarded the Harding/Durrant prize for best written papers.

Candidates for the Fellowship Diploma are tested on both their performance abilities and historical and technical knowledge of the instrument, through the submission of a recital, keyboard tests and two written papers. Normally Imogen would have travelled to London to complete these requirements, but due to COVID-19 she recorded her recital on the Peterborough Cathedral organ and completed the two written papers at home under exam conditions.

"I am thrilled to have gained my FRCO and I would like to thank everyone in the Cathedral Music Department who helped me to prepare for my exam,” said Imogen.

Director of Music Tansy Castledine said:

“This is a really superb achievement and everyone here at the Cathedral is delighted for Imogen and so proud. To gain the fellowship qualification marks her out as having achieved the industry’s standard of professional expertise in organ playing, alongside her having a deep and broad understanding of the performance and historical issues in relation to the instrument. This is a demanding qualification which requires a very high level of skill indeed, and to have also won prizes is a huge accomplishment and a wonderful endorsement of the hard work that Imogen has put in over a sustained period of time. Imogen is a talented and dynamic musician and this is just the start of her professional journey, the future of which looks very bright indeed.”

Imogen took up her Organ Scholarship at the Cathedral in September 2020. You can hear her playing a special organ recital for Lent, at 6.00pm on this Sunday 21st February 2020, online via the Cathedral’s Facebook page and YouTube Channel.
