Lent, Holy Week & an Easter Eggstravaganza!

Tuesday 14 March

Journey through Lent to the Joys of Easter.

Join us at Peterborough Cathedral as we journey through Lent and Holy Week, to the joys of Easter Sunday. Our Lent course, From the Wilderness to the World is well under way. This year’s course looks at themes of prayer and discipleship in Matthew’s Gospel and in our lives as Christians today. The sessions are open to all and take place on Tuesdays in the Visitor and Learning Centre.

On Palm Sunday, we will once more be welcoming donkeys, Elise and Mandy as they lead a procession to the morning service as we commemorate Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem. At 6.30pm there will be a meditation with music: The Stabat Mater by Domenico Scarlatti a mediaeval poem reflecting on Mary’s sorrow at the cross. In this setting by Domenico Scarlatti, the ten musical sections are interspersed with words and silence to create a poignant meditation on the Passion. All are welcome and donations are invited.

Throughout Holy Week there will be a number of services both in person and online. On Maundy Thursday the Commemoration of the Last Supper & Vigil will be live-streamed alongside the Cathedral Eucharist on Easter Sunday for those who cannot attend the Cathedral in person.

As we approach Easter Sunday, we warmly invite you to celebrate with us with a full day of services and reflections beginning with Holy Communion at 8.00am and finishing with Festal Evensong with Procession at 3.30pm.

Then finally, on Easter Monday, dig out your wellies and bring the whole family along for the Big Cathedral Easter Egg Hunt, an all-age eggstravanza taking you on an Easter-themed trail inside and outside the Cathedral. Once you’ve found the eggs and solved the puzzle, you can claim a full-size Fairtrade Easter Egg complete with Easter story booklet!
