Music lovers will find their ‘inner songbird’ and join mezzo-soprano Gabriella Pineda-Rodrigues in singing some favourite songs from the worlds of opera, pop and musical theatre at Peterborough Cathedral on Saturday 25th April.
‘Songbirds in Spring’ takes place at 7.30pm and will feature a number of operatic arias, as well as a repertoire of well-loved classic songs.
Many of the songs in the programme have birds in their titles, such as A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, Sir Paul McCartney’s Blackbird and Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins. There will also be a selection of other familiar music, ranging from Mozart to Elvis!
Gabriella’s return to the Cathedral follows her very successful ‘Goodbye Gaia’ concert last September, which was the final event whilst Luke Jerram’s Gaia Earth artwork was on display.
The accompanist on 25th April will be the pianist Mark Jefferson, and three of Gabriella’s senior pupils will be singing pieces as part of the programme. Gabriella is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and, alongside her recital schedule, she teaches singing at several schools in Peterborough.
Tickets for ‘Songbirds in Spring’ are £15 per person. You can book online at www.ticketisland.co.uk/peterboroughcathedral (select 25th April) or call Peterborough Cathedral during office hours on 01733 355315.
