There’s less than a month to go until Peterborough’s most exciting fundraising event takes place in the heart of the city centre.
The Cathedral has joined forces with city based charity Shine and will host more than 100 local thrillseekers as they take on the 150ft abseil down the North West Tower, on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th May.
Spectators will spot some familiar faces throughout the weekend, as the Cathedral’s own Dean, Rev’d Chris Dalliston [you can sponsor the Dean here] goes head to head with Peterborough City Council chief executive Gillian Beasley on Friday morning. Peterborough United mascot Peter Burrow and popular Heart FM radio personality Kev Lawrence are also set to take part.
Live streaming of royal wedding - wear your best hat!
There’s a further treat in store for onlookers throughout Saturday as the Cathedral grounds play host to a selection of stalls, a raffle and a big screen TV with live coverage of the royal wedding.
Becket's Tea Room will have an outdoor marquee with Champagne and refreshments on sale, or you can bring a picnic and settle down to watch the wedding. There will be a 'best dressed hat' competition, judged by the Dean at 2.30pm, with categories for both under 16s and 16 + age groups, and prizes for the winners.
Book your abseil
The event, which is raising funds to preserve the Cathedral and support families living with or affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus, has been hugely popular with individuals and businesses alike, but it’s not too late to secure a place for you, or your team.
Registration costs £50 per person, and a minimum fundraising target of £250 is suggested, with group targets available to corporate entrants. As an extra incentive, the top two fundraisers will walk away with either a 10” Lenovo Yoga tablet or a 32gb Ipod Touch, generously donated by AA Accountants and Robert J Goodson Limited.
